Senior Palliative Care Lead

  • Based in Macquarie Park, short walk from Metro Station/ Car space available

Our Practice, Risk & Quality team continues to grow with an exciting new opportunity for a highly experienced, strategic, and passionate Palliative Care Leader. This pivotal new role will ensure that Catholic Healthcare (CHL) continues to provide high-quality care to older individuals at end of life, regardless of where they live. 

Reporting directly to the Chief Quality Officer, places you at the forefront of designing, implementing, and operationalising best practices in Palliative Care across Residential Aged Care and Home and Communities portfolios. CHLs commitment to spiritual wellbeing underscores our holistic approach to providing compassionate end of life support for individuals and their loved ones.

Aligning to our new Strategy and recently launched Model of Care, you will apply your Palliative Care expertise combined with your commercial acumen, in establishing best practice palliative and end of life care and services to support older people to die with dignity.

Your leadership, supported by a growing network of Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Allied Health Professionals will enhance the confidence and capability of CHL by incorporating your practice, research and entrepreneurial abilities to lay the groundwork for future growth and development of an innovative Palliative Care Model.

Your days will include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of evidence-based end of life practices that meet the diverse needs of older people and their families
  • Providing expert clinical guidance, education, and leadership in end-of-life care and liaising with external stakeholders to promote end-of-life care in all care settings
  • Developing and maintaining evidenced based service model for Nurse Practitioners services/offerings
  • Collaborating with academics and interdisciplinary teams to develop policies and procedures
  • Ensuring that Palliative Care principles and practices are translated into all aspects of care
  • Collaborating with Universities in research and evaluation of care and practice
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders such as - community organisations, hospice agencies, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care and support services
  • Providing expert clinical guidance and leadership to a team of healthcare professionals, older people, and families involved in end-of-life care
  • Serving as a resource and mentor for Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare professionals seeking to expand their knowledge and skills in end-of-life care
  • Developing and delivering educational programs for nursing and care staff on topics related to end-of-life care, including pain management, symptom control, and communication skills

The ideal applicant is a hands on operator with a curious mindset and a practical approach with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders in support of achieving outcomes. Additionally, you will have;

Registered Nurse with AHPRA and endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner by NMBA

  • Advanced degree in nursing (Master’s degree or higher)
  • 10+ years of Aged Care clinical nursing experience, ideally in Palliative Care, end-of-life care, or hospice
  • Proven leadership and commercial experience in a clinical setting
  • Advanced wholistic clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining professionalism in all aspects of practice, particularly in sensitive end-of-life care situations
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations surrounding end-of-life care, including advance care directives, consent, and decision-making processes
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and delivering projects
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to travel as required
