Job description

  • $96,365 - $104,848 per annum (plus super, plus RDO)

 
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join the Council’s Payroll Team which is part of the wider People, Culture and Development Department.  
 
About the role
Reporting to the PCD Operations and Systems Lead you will be responsible for providing a customer centric, contemporary and compliant payroll service to all employees, leaders and associated stakeholders of Council. 
 
Key responsibilities:

  • Lead a small team of Payroll Officers in day-to-day payroll operations including inbox management, higher duties processing, Long Service Leave transfers, time and attendance system, leave requests and all other aspects of a fortnightly pay cycle
  • Be the escalation point for the more complex payroll queries and have a strong working knowledge of payroll legislation including the Local Government Act
  • Deliver a payroll service that is accurate, on time and compliant with all current legislative requirements   
  • Prepare workers compensation PIAWE, superannuation reconciliation and payment, calculate and process redundancies and large quantum terminations
  • Ownership over the Time and Attendance system and award interpreter
  • Deliver a high level of customer service to all employees of the Council
  • Prepare a range of month end reports, and assist with bi-annual payroll audits and end of year process and reports
  • Continuous process improvements of our systems and ways of working

 
What will you bring to the role?
To be considered for this position you will have:

  • Significant experience working in a fast paced, high volume payroll team with an employee base of 1000 + employees
  • Experience leading, developing and supporting a payroll processing team
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task between basic and complex payroll queries and hands on support of day-to-day processing to meet payroll deadlines
  • Sound working knowledge of current payroll legislation and demonstrated experience interpreting Awards and Enterprise Agreements
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and collaborative approach in a hybrid environment
  • Excellent time management skills and organisation
  • Comprehensive computer skills across the Microsoft Office range of applications, competent with excel and good working knowledge of the sophisticated payroll systems including ADP, Chris21 and PayGlobal.
  • A commitment to quality outcomes, efficient work practices and continuous improvement
