Senior Payroll Specialist

As the Senior Payroll Specialist in our People & Safety team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll processing and ensuring accurate and timely disbursement of wages to over 950 team members. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and comprehensive knowledge of payroll regulations and procedures. 

You would be the subject matter expert on all payroll topics to provide guidance to the payroll team, identify and lead payroll projects, and respond to employee and managers inquiries. An essential component of this position involves collaborating with various departments within the organization to ensure that processes, data, and projects are executed to meet the expected standards.

About the role: 

• Manage the end-to-end payroll process for weekly pay runs, including data entry, calculations, and validation of timesheets and attendance records.
• Ensure compliance with payroll regulations, including super, wage and hour requirements, aligned with the associated award.
• Process payroll adjustments, deductions, and garnishments accurately and in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with HR and finance teams to maintain employee records, resolve payroll discrepancies, and address any payroll-related inquiries.
• Generate payroll reports and provide analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.
• Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in payroll administration to ensure compliance, efficiency and best practices for the business. 
• Provide guidance and mentoring to a small and close-knit payroll team while reporting into the General Manager – People & Safety. 

What you will bring to the roll: 

• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a processing payroll
• Knowledge and understanding of all payroll legislative requirements
• Experience working with multiple payroll, T&A and HCM systems would be advantageous
• Experience in award interpretation and application across multiple awards. 
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Understanding of National Employment Standards and Fair Work Guidelines
