We have an opportunity for a Senior Plant Biosecurity Officer, Market Access to be part of our Biosecurity Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The primary purpose of the role is to provide management of ongoing plant pest detection, control and mitigation systems and processes, and staff. In this capacity the position manages the registration and accreditation of plant and plant related businesses, and associated administrative and records management functions, to meet the requirements of the Plant Health Act 2009. The position manages a range of complex and politically sensitive projects and activities to ensure that movements of horticultural produce are coordinated, consistent and compliant with national Market Access and quarantine requirements.
The role contributes delivering the agency’s priorities including:

• Maintaining Market Access by working with primary industries to respond to evolving requirements of domestic and global markets and consumers.
• Managing adverse events effectively and helping primary industries and communities improve preparedness, resilience and recover well.
• Build partnerships with industry, stakeholders, research organisations and regional communities.
• Securing production through biosecurity and efficient and sustainable use of resources; Organisational performance as a modern, flexible and responsive organisation that values and develops its people.

The role contributes to delivering Market Access functions, planning and supervising market inspections, certification, the disposal, seizing, quarantining or condemnation of horticultural produce. The position also conducts inspections associated with horticultural consignments, and verifies and issues plant health certifications, and includes managing the Senior Plant Biosecurity Inspectors and administrative staff.

Special Conditions

• Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.

• Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required at short notice.

• The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.

Remuneration
ASO5 - $84,522 min - $94,003 max per annum, plus superannuation
