A unique and fulfilling role that will have you advocating on behalf of the WA business community on IR, WH&S and other employment policy issues!

About the Opportunity
As a Policy Adviser, you will work in a fast-paced and influential team of passionate professionals who drive positive change by influencing government decision-making. We need you to bring your expert knowledge and skills to advocate on behalf of the WA business community on industrial relations, work health and safety and other employment policy issues.
We are seeking either a Policy Advisor or Senior Policy Advisor, depending on demonstrated experience in Workplace Relations. The position is offered on a full time, permanent basis reporting to the Manager, Policy.
Your responsibilities include:
You will develop and advocate for CCIWA’s policy positions on industrial relations, work health and safety and other employment policy issues by:
  • Engaging with CCIWA members, including through managing CCIWA’s Workplace Relations Forum and Work Health and Safety Forum.
  • Preparing written and verbal submissions to the State and Commonwealth Government, tribunals, and relevant regulators.
  • Undertaking research and analysis, including monitoring developments in relevant legislation and case law.
  • Building and maintaining constructive relationships with key external stakeholders to influence policy development, including within government bodies and other industry associations.
  • Working collaboratively with the rest of the business unit when policy issues overlap.
  • Actively contributing to policy debate.
Represent CCIWA at:
  • The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Workplace Relations and work health and safety forums.
  • The Work Health and Safety Commission and related Legislative Advisory Committee (as a proxy when required).

About you
Success in this role will come from your passion for industrial relations, well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Above all, you will be a catalyst for change with a yearning to advocate on behalf of the WA business community.
To be considered for this role, you will possess:
  • Bachelor and/or Tertiary degree in industrial relations, human resources, economics or law.
  • Proven ability to successfully negotiate and advocate on behalf of the business community through effective communication.
  • Outstanding problem solving and critical thinking skills, with demonstrated ability to identify legislative solutions to topical Workplace Relations issues.
  • Superior written skills and the ability to create original policy content.
  • The ability to build constructive relationships with business and government.
  • National Police Clearance
