ABOUT US
The WA Aged Care Collaborative Group was formed to ensure that older West Australians have the best Aged Care services and accommodation possible. The Group is comprised of seven of Western Australia's premier Aged Care providers, including Amana Living, Baptistcare, Bethanie, Brightwater, Hall & Prior, Juniper and Southern Cross Care WA. Under the leadership of their Chief Executive Officers, the member organisations actively share non-competitive information contributing to improved care and well-being outcomes for the people they serve. Having collaborated since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Group have now decided to employ an Executive Officer to assist in the development and implementation of its advocacy strategies.
Amana Living is one of the largest Aged Care providers in Western Australia and has been responding to the needs of older people and those who care for them since 1962. We offer a broad range of services, including residential care, transition care programs, retirement living, home care, day clubs, respite, and dementia specific services. Together, we enable older people to maintain their individuality, providing what is needed to support a fulfilling life.
THE ROLE
Employed by Amana Living, the Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor will maximise the impact of the WA Aged Care Collaborative Group by supporting the Group to effectively engage with all levels of government contributing to the sustainable provision of high-quality Aged Care services in Western Australia. The Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor will partner with the Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) to support advocacy with the Commonwealth Government on behalf of the Group. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of Amana Living and acting under the direction of the Group Chair (which rotates annually), the Senior Policy & Advocacy Advisor acts on behalf of the Group.
Key responsibilities
  • Analyses the impact of government policy on the provision of Aged Care services in Western Australia using both qualitative and quantitative data
  • Prepares policy positions on behalf of the Group
  • Scans the environment for factors that may impact the Group's policy and advocacy work
  • Organises briefing sessions on behalf of the Group with government officials and politicians (state and commonwealth)
  • Coordinates the Group's input and prepares submissions for government and peak body consultation processes
  • Supports the Group to identify and establish productive relationships with key stakeholders including government officials, politicians, peak bodies, unions, universities, consultancies, media, etc.
  • Formally represents the Group in meetings with stakeholders as required.
  • Coordinate projects (e.g., economic analyses, workforce development strategies) on behalf of the Group working with external organisations as needed.
  • Convenes regular (monthly) meetings of the Group CEOs and coordinates an annual planning session
  • Maintains records of meetings and follows through on agreed actions
  • Manages the budget, held by Amana Living on behalf of the Group, providing regular updates of income and expenditure
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to communicate with influence, build strong relationships with industry bodies and government, and prepare persuasive, evidence-based proposals.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (e.g., communications, health care administration, politics, law)
  • Experience in the health care, Aged Care or disability sector in a strategic, policy or advocacy role
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with government to influence sound policy outcomes
  • Proven organisational and project management skills
  • Experience managing budgets
  • National Police Clearance Certificate (no older than 6 months) or NDIS (Worker's Screening) Check
  • Evidence of Covid-19 and Flu (2023) vaccinations
  • Western Australian C Class Driver's License
