About the team
The Merchandise team at Coles plays a critical role and pride themselves on building sustainable long term supplier relationships, developing new range offers and ideas, and working on convenient, healthy solutions.
You'll find us working across all business units at Coles Supermarkets, Liquor and Coles Local. Supermarkets is one of the largest teams at Coles, but we're a close-knit group that come from all over the world. About the role
As a Senior Product Technologist, you will drive quality whilst supporting product innovation as part of the wider Meat, Deli Seafood team. You will work with a diverse supplier base; you will develop and implement world-class supplier quality management programs.
You'll also:
• Demonstrate products in their portfolio are safe, legal, compliant, responsibly, and ethically sourced and of repeatable quality at launch and while products remain on sale
• Utilise feedback sources (complaints, returns, regulator contacts, DC, and store feedback) to promptly action adverse product performance or compliance.
• Manage the delivery of new packaging and packaging updates regarding content and design ensuring Coles' sustainability commitments are met. Tasks include pack copy submission, PREP analysis, approval process and marketing design panels.
• Planning traceability initiatives and implementing their use for a more transparent supply chain.
• Work collaboratively with suppliers to manage the launch of new products, speed to market, provision of market leading value & launch of strategic initiatives.
• Develop the strategic technical plan for categories under your remit, that deliver safe, legal, compliant, responsibly, and ethically sourced, repeatable quality Own Brand products & category strategy.
• Take ownership for business improvement projects in collaboration with other BU, central function, and external stakeholders
• Lead, develop and support Product Technologists, Assistant Product Technologists, and graduates.
This position will suit an experienced Product Technologist, with skills across a variety of Food groups. You will also have demonstrated experience as a people leader.
You'll also need:
• Tertiary Qualification in Food Science or related discipline
• Proven experience in a technical role within a fast-paced environment
• Lead Food Safety / Quality auditing qualification preferred
• Proven analytical, problem solving & time management skills
• Stakeholder management
• Project Management
• Current driver's license is a requirement
• High level of expertise and competency in processing technologies
• Excellent understanding on traceability programmes and verification.
