Join the Pacific Blue team to lead and deliver the engineering and technical aspects of a utility scale BESS project in South Australia, to achieve the necessary quality requirements and outcomes expected at Pacific Blue as the owner.
This Senior Project Engieer role is based in the Pacific Blue Melbourne office, will require regular travel to South Australia during the construction phase and will be a fixed term contract position to the Commercial Operations Date for the project, with an estimated timeline of 2 years.
Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesProject Engineering
Provide technical guidance on the engineering aspects of project and assist the team to ensure best practice engineering design in Pacific Blue’s Australian renewable energy project.
Lead the technical aspects of key project contracts including design, engineering, equipment, construction and connection agreements with a strong focus on optimising the technical and commercial outcomes.
As a Subject Matter Expert, lead engineering designs and specifications of renewable energy and storage project to ensure compliance with the aims and objectives of the company as well as current codes and standards.
Oversee engineering aspects of project including development of preliminary designs, technical specifications, Project Engineering scope of work and design work packages.
Co-ordinate technical input from Grid Connection Manager to ensure engineering specification, design, construction and commissioning phases consider grid connection requirements.
Collaborate with key stakeholders that includes owners’ and lenders’ engineers during design, construction and commissioning phases, maintaining close contact with site-based project activities including periodic site visits.
Monitor the testing and commissioning processes in accordance with Australian or International Standards, codes and installation regulations, and the respective commercial arrangements.
Project Management
Working with the Project Manager and Engineering team to support the development of the engineering solution including construction engineering activities and ensure projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications.
Direct and lead Project Engineering consultants, contractors and suppliers to achieve project deliverables.
Monitor and improve the performance and reliability of engineering designs.
Facilitate stakeholder meetings, design and risk reviews.
Responsible for effective oversight of multiple subcontractors, design consultants, project site staff (i.e., Construction Managers, Project Administrators, Doc Controllers) for large scale utility power plant project.
Responsible for monitoring all scheduled aspects for assigned projects, from project execution through project completion to ensure on-time delivery for large scale utility renewable energy and storage project.
Develop and implement Project Engineering design management and quality control processes.
Ensure that the Company’s compliance obligations are actively maintained, managed and kept up to date with focus on the compliance obligations allocated to the position title as identified in the Company’s Register of Compliance Obligations (as set out in the Compliance Procedure and as amended from time to time).
In collaboration with the Engineering team, proactively engage with Shareholder and its representatives on process alignment, coordination of information requests, management of any approvals required for the Project.
As a Subject Matter Expert, engage with various stakeholders within the Project to maintain visibility of all processes and activities requiring Shareholder approvals and input.
Contractor Management
Lead technical input, evaluation and negotiation of key project contracts and tender packages.
Support the Engineering team and Project Manager in managing and co-ordinating various engineering contractors, notably feasibility, FEED and specialist services.
For EPC / D&C contractors ensure appropriate interface management between all design aspects of the project where Pacific Blue free issue information.
Support the Project Manager to ensure robust project and commercial management of contractor services to time, budget and quality standard.
Knowledge & Experience
- Engineering Degree (Electrical, Power, Renewable Energy or related discipline)
- Varied and recognised Project Engineering experience with 10+ years’ overall experience in the energy industry, with at least 5+ years’ experience in the renewable energy industry
- Knowledge of the processes and procedures for developing and utilising engineering design specifications, with demonstrable knowledge implementation.
- Experience with the specification, design, procurement, installation, construction and commissioning of utility-scale BESS and solar project would be highly regarded
- Knowledge of the relevant Australian or International Standards, codes and installation regulations
- Experience with a range of project contract structures (EPC, S&I, BOP) expected
- Experience as a Project Engineer on numerous utility-scale Wind, Solar and/or Energy Storage projects with the ability to drive engineering innovation
- Strong industry relationships, with the ability to leverage these relationships for the benefit of the organisation and its projects
- Track record of excellence - a passion for consistent, high quality delivery
- Experience in project and construction risk assessment processes and the development of risk mitigating strategies
