VCID No. 897433

This is a Fixed Term Part Time appointment for 24 months with possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

About the Chronic Illness Peer Support (ChIPS) Program

The Chronic Illness Peer Support Service (ChIPS) is a vibrant new program within the Department of Adolescent Medicine at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH), and first of its kind in Western Australia. Consumer driven and based on peer support and youth participation, it aims to improve the lives of young people aged 12-25 living with a chronic illness or rare disease.

The four core components to the program are facilitated groups, social events, camps and leadership activities. Participants share their health and illness experiences, make connections, learn from each other and have opportunities to do things they would not usually be able to without the support ChIPS provides.

The program is based on a well proven model that has been operating at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne for over twenty years, where it has benefited hundreds of adolescents.

To hear from the RCH participants themselves, please watch this short video:

This 2-year pilot at PCH has been made possible through funding from the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Stan Peron Foundation, and in collaboration with the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne.
