The Opportunity
The Ai for Law Enforcement and Community Safety (AiLECS) Research Centre is a collaboration between the Australian Federal Police and Monash University. The centre has an extensive work programme across themes including but not limited to:
- AI for assisting criminal investigations
- Pattern of life characterisation
- Data ontology development
- AI and the legal system
The AiLECS Research Centre, located within the Faculty of Information Technology, is seeking an experienced Senior Research Engineer to lead the delivery of advanced software development and construction practices to support the projects run by the AiLECS Research Centre.
This role will involve:
- Leading and managing applied research and development of software tools and platforms that operationalise the research work of the AiLECS
- Undertaking design of complex software applications, components and modules, creating and communicating multiple design views, and identifying and evaluating alternative designs and trade-offs
- Providing expert, specialist advice and guidance to team members and senior management, providing subject matter expertise to projects
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with technical stakeholders, effectively managing client relationships with respect to user experience and testing matters
- Qualifications in computer science of software engineering
- Extensive experience in design, coding and testing of quality software and construction practices
- Advanced skills in core technologies and core programming languages such as Python and C#
- Strong working knowledge of agile methodologies. SDLD, cloud based services and data modelling
- Highly developed relationship management skills, with the ability to lead, influence, mentor and negotiate with a variety of stakeholders
- And ideally, familiarity with contemporary law enforcement tools and techniques will be highly valued
