Where you will be working:
Medical oncology involves using chemotherapy, hormone therapy and other targeted therapy for the treatment of cancer.The medical oncology service consists of an outpatient service and an in-patient consultation and admission service, with clinics conducted at the Central Coast Cancer Centre at Gosford Hospital and the Cancer Centre at Wyong Hospital.
The department prides itself on its commitment to clinical trials for which it received the NSW Premier’s Award for Outstanding Cancer Research – Innovation in Cancer Clinical Trials, in 2016. In addition, the department remains active in medical education through its affiliation with the University of Newcastle.
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Aus/NZ/Competent Authority Pathway: Completion of a minimum of two postgraduate years working as a Medical Officer with related medical experience in relevant specialities along with demonstrated competence and eligibility to be accepted into a recognised training program.
- Non-Competent Authority Pathway: Completion of a minimum of three postgraduate years working as a Medical Officer with related medical experience in relevant specialities along with demonstrated competence and eligibility to be accepted into a recognised training program.
- Completion of three months Medical Oncology or more within the last two years, in a hospital setting within an Australian Hospital or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute.
