What you'll be doing The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of surgical patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Surgical (Surgical Skills) Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the SRMO skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). The position will consist of 4 rotations. Employment for this position is within the Northern Surgical Skills Network rather than hospital based. As a part of your employment contract you may be expected to rotate within the following hospitals: Gosford Hospital, Royal North Shore Hospital, Ryde Hospital, Port Macquarie Base Hospital and Northern Beaches Hospital. There will also be a network relief term in which cover is provided for a roster which combines the Northern Surgical Skills Network and the Northern SET Network. The relief may include covering SET Trainees at Lismore and Hornsby Hospital and Orthopaedic SRMOs at Children’s Hospital Westmead.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
- Adept ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
- Adept written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team.
- Adept good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
