Syrinx is an innovative service and product practice specialising in nature-based solutions with a focus on water treatment and reuse for enabling local communities. 

On the back of winning the specialty track in the 2023 AcceliCity, the company is gearing for an exciting product launch of our new EnPhytobox technology.

With offices in both Perth, Tasmania and Rotorua, Syrinx is at the forefront of sustainability, restoration ecology and green infrastructure design nationally.

We are currently growing our Perth office and are looking to appoint a motivated and exceptional individual to join our team in the role of Senior Restoration Ecologist. The ideal candidate will have a passion for environment, enthusiasm for delivering high quality work and an interest in growth and long-term outlook within the company.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to help further Syrinx’s restoration ecology impact across various sectors to help our clients deliver meaningful outcomes for nature and nature-dependent economies.  The position is an important appointment for Syrinx, and requires a mature, passionate and driven individual with a strong science background and an applied mindset. 

The role will require you to contribute your knowledge and skills and experience in ecology to multidisciplinary assessments informing planning, design and nature-based solutions for high profile projects, including restoration planning and directing/monitoring applied ecological restoration works of degraded lands, mine site restoration planning and assessments, wetland creation and restoration, along with a range of other environmental science tasks. The role will require you to become familiar with global directions for biodiversity and restoration, including science-based targets, nature-related disclosures, biodiversity markets, natural capital accounting etc.

This is a technical and project management role working with a talented and diverse team. Strong project management skills and experience and knowledge in land management and ecological restoration is central to the role, as is the ability to negotiate effectively and work productively with Clients, suppliers, research agencies and landowners.

This role offers excellent potential for growth and will enable you to develop and establish your niche areas. 

About You

You are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and passionate about technical work that contributes to making positive environmental change. You are also organised, self-motivated and flexible. You have a positive work attitude, have good communication skills and are proactive in working with other team members. 

You must have the legal rights to work in Australia.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A tertiary qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or equivalent;
  • At least 5 years postgraduate experience in a relevant field, with clear evidence you can work effectively within a small business and professional consulting practice;
  • Field survey experience (i.e. flora/biodiversity/ ecological surveys), strong botanical knowledge particularly of WA ecosystems;
  • Excellent analytical and data management skills;
  • Competency and experience in GIS, field mapping and developing and managing spatial datasets;
  • High competency in Microsoft Office (MS Word and Excel);
  • Demonstrated high standard of written work with extensive experience in scientific and technical writing;
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills;
  • Knowledge of relevant State/Commonwealth regulatory frameworks and policies;
  • Excellent self-organisation skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to multitask and handle fast -pace of project delivery;
  • Ability to work independently, lead others and to be a team player;
  • Ability to travel interstate and internationally
  • Valid/current WA driver’s license.
     

The following skills and experience would also be highly regarded

  • Experience and competency in working in a consulting practice
  • Good/demonstrated understanding of wetland ecosystems;
  • Knowledge of global and national ecological commitments, programs, initiatives and novel methods;
  • Project management skills
  • Four-Wheel drive experience;
  • Working knowledge of consulting practice and experience with project management;
  • Knowledge of WHS practices, procedures and protocols;
  • Competency with statistical packages;
  • Fast and independent learner;
