About the teamJoin our passionate team and help the City protect and enhance its natural asset network. The team of five is made up of dedicated ecologists and environmental planners, with expertise in fauna road ecology projects, planning and policy development and project management. As the Senior Road Ecologist, you will assist the Environmental Planning Leader in the delivery of actions relating to the City’s Wildlife-Vehicle Collision Mitigation Program.About your new roleThe Senior Road Ecologist works with the Environmental Planning team within the broader Environmental Planning and Assessment Business Unit. This position prepares and implements actions under the Wildlife-Vehicle Collision Mitigation Program, to deliver on the City’s strategic priorities under the Council Plan, in partnership with a range of internal and external stakeholders.For more information, view the position brief below.We're looking for people who have:You are an individual that thrives working within a team environment and can build strong working relationships with teammates and support staff to achieve goals and aspirations.To be successful in the role ideally you will;
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Planning or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in strategic environmental planning, road ecology or similar
  • Have strong, demonstrated project management skills (including the management of external consultancies), and an ability to manage the delivery of fauna-based road ecology projects. A qualification in project management would be highly desirable
  • Be highly motivated and self-driven, with an ability to work autonomously
  • Have a strong understanding of the City of Gold Coast’s planning scheme (the City Plan), and it’s associated environmental overlays and provisions
  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of fauna road ecology science is highly desirable
  • Be a strong team player and contribute to a positive team environment in accordance with City workplace policies and practices, and the City’s corporate values and high-performance principles
  • Have well-developed communication skills (interpersonal, written and verbal) with an ability to build and maintain professional and productive relationships with team members and other City directorates, government agencies, community organisations, community members and a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Have very strong, demonstrated interpersonal skills, with experience in negotiation and relationship building
  • Have demonstrated skills and experience in research, problem solving and the development of scientific methodologies and protocols within a strategic planning framework
  • Have experience in successfully managing the delivery of a work program with multiple conflicting priorities; ensuring program deliverables, deadlines and the completion of tasks and projects are met whilst achieving high quality outcomes
  • Have strong skills in Microsoft Office and GIS applications such as ArcMap
  • Maintain a culture of health and safety in accordance with the City’s High-Performance Principles.
