About the role

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists in our Biochemistry department for a full-time Senior Medical Scientist.

This role is perfect if you are looking for a rewarding career. 

The successful applicant will be required to work autonomously within our Biochemistry team processing in-patient, out-patient and urgent work as required. You will be a self-motivated individual, who can demonstrate an attention to detail, along with excellent communication skills and a strong focus on outstanding customer service. You will be a role model and assist the Scientist in Charge with ensuring the department is run efficiently and effectively.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Perform testing of samples as part of the Biochemistry team
  • Rostering, supervision and training of staff in the department
  • Assist the SIC in competency assessments, performance management and audits
  • Assist the SIC in managing work flow processes, budgets and department plans
  • Quality monitoring and improvement, with monitoring of NATA compliance. 

To be considered for the role you will need to possess the following:

  • Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Biochemistry laboratory 
  • Assist in new testing development 
  • Previous experience in leading a team
  • The ability to identify and analyse issues, problems and opportunities in a timely and effective manner.
  • Good computer skills, exceptional customer service skills and telephone manner
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the team, Pathologists, referring Doctors, Commercial Clients and patients
  • Experience with NATA accreditation processes. 
  • Ability to understand and ensure compliance with WHS policies and guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy workplace
