About the role
An exciting opportunity exists in our Biochemistry department for a full-time Senior Medical Scientist.

The successful applicant will be required to work autonomously within our Biochemistry team processing in-patient, out-patient and urgent work as required. You will be a self-motivated individual, who can demonstrate an attention to detail, along with excellent communication skills and a strong focus on outstanding customer service. You will be a role model and assist the Scientist in Charge with ensuring the department is run efficiently and effectively.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Perform testing of samples as part of the Biochemistry team
- Rostering, supervision and training of staff in the department
- Assist the SIC in competency assessments, performance management and audits
- Assist the SIC in managing work flow processes, budgets and department plans
- Quality monitoring and improvement, with monitoring of NATA compliance.
To be considered for the role you will need to possess the following:
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Biochemistry laboratory
- Assist in new testing development
- Previous experience in leading a team
- The ability to identify and analyse issues, problems and opportunities in a timely and effective manner.
- Good computer skills, exceptional customer service skills and telephone manner
- Exceptional time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with the team, Pathologists, referring Doctors, Commercial Clients and patients
- Experience with NATA accreditation processes.
- Ability to understand and ensure compliance with WHS policies and guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy workplace
