Job description

We offer flexible education and learning options, including the Victorian Pathway Certificate (VPC) and VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) for students aged 15-19 years. Our mission is to provide a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for young people who may have disengaged or are at risk of disengaging from mainstream education.

About Us:

At WCC, we believe every young person has the right to quality educational opportunities that enhance their lives and empower them for future success. We offer a fresh start in a smaller, supportive setting for students disconnected from education or struggling to find success. Our focus is on building resilience and preparing students for the future, regardless of their life circumstances.

Our Students:

Our students come from diverse backgrounds, including those who have disengaged from school, school refusers (school can’t), refugees with interrupted schooling, and those facing mental health or learning challenges.

Position Objective:

We are seeking a passionate and innovative teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for organising and implementing instructional programs in line with the VCAA standards for VPC and VCE VM. Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver approved curriculum for VPC and VCE VM.

  • Provide necessary adjustments to address identified student needs.
  • Maintain student wellbeing and educational records.
  • Liaise with wellbeing staff and education support staff to ensure successful student participation and transitions.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students and report progress to parents/carers.
  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations, including child safety and risk management.
  • Participate in excursions, supervision duties, and other school programs

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience teaching Senior Secondary education programs (VCE VM, VPC).
  • Understanding of applied learning principles and other relevant pedagogical practices.
  • Experience teaching diverse learner groups, including disengaged young people, LGBTIQA+ youth, and refugees.
  • Ability to empower young people to achieve their learning goals.
  • Skill in promoting active learning and implementing supportive classroom strategies and adjustments to learning needs.
  • Flexibility in managing competing demands and working as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in classroom management, particularly with trauma-informed practice and students facing multiple educational barriers.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing applied learning curriculum programs.
  • Competent user of technology such as Microsoft 365, Student Management Systems, Student Learning Platforms and other programs such as Sentral for student learning, reporting and communication.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation in relation to Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order 1359.
