The role as Senior Solar Engineer for PSD Energy will involve, but not be limited to, the following:
› Preparation of detailed designs for Solar farms and Battery energy storage systems;
› Client facing interface for 2 to 3 projects;
› Keeping up to date on new technologies and construction processes;
› Keeping up to date on new and emerging technologies;
› Preparation of detailed and conceptual engineering designs, bill of quantities and reports for tendering and review;
› Interfacing and representing PSD with clients and suppliers world wide;
› DC Detailed design during execution of the projects;
› Review of selected equipment for due diligence and compliance purposes;
› Supporting installation teams with clarifications, RFI’s, fault finding and commissioning;
› On site verifications of installations according to specifications and designs;
› Management and execution of technical and design components of existing projects and bids under preparation;
› Mentoring interns, graduates and engineers;
› Carry out system studies and power system analysis using appropriate software tools.
› Assistance with business development in the field of electrical infrastructure for utilities, industrial consumers;
› Timely execution and preparation(AutoCAD) of designs and design verification of existing projects;
› Timely preparation of tender designs with costing advice;
› Doing audits on existing installations and designs;
› Adherence to project budgets for design and execution;
› Controlling the flow of information and documentation between the Company and Clients, Suppliers and other related third parties;
› Creating and updating procedures as required;
› Adhere to the requirements of the Company Quality Management System and ensuring that projects are managed and completed to the required quality standards;
› Maintaining an accurate filing administration system in relation to project design documentation and drawings; and
› Maintaining and updating the design office technical library.
› Monitor work environment for hazards; actively participate in WHS programs; utilise appropriate equipment in a safe manner; conform to reasonable instructions regarding health and safety and; participate in workplace safety audits by:
» Contributing to the provision of a safe working environment for employees and contractors.
» Identifying, reporting and recording hazards.
» Ensuring safety procedures are followed at all times.
» Comply with requirements of Safe Working Procedures.
The Senior Solar Engineer will require the following skills and attributes:
› Suitable tertiary education in electrical engineering to degree or national Diploma (Technician) level and a minimum 5 years’ experience;
› CEC accreditation is preferred;
› A detailed understanding of primary electrical plant, protection systems as well as SCADA systems;
› A detailed understanding of the civil and mechanical engineering aspects of substations, solar farms and overhead power lines;
› Ability to do energy yield simulations using PVSyst and HOMER;
› Ability to lead a design and commissioning team in the timely execution of a task under time and technical constraints;
› Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural teams;
› Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVcase, and Helioscope etc;
› Good people and communication skills and an ability to interact with internal and external parties.
