The Senior Solution Designer position sits within the Business Banking domain delivering Business Lending originations technology solutions for the bank’s customer via both online and staff facing channels. The applications delivered are group critical which are enterprise applications supporting critical digital and staff facing application across the bank.
The technologies used are Java/JavaScript/ReactJS/SQL code based to integrate with the banks enterprise services layer, databases, and host systems. Software development practices within the team are aligning to agile methodologies.
How will I help?
As Senior Solutions Designer you will be responsible for:
- Consult to the wider IT community to provide technical and/or domain advice and expertise to improve quality and robustness of solutions and maintain/support application systems and/or development.
- Set direction and oversight for the consistent use and application of tools, standards, methods, and processes to ensure that quality applications are developed with consistent maintainable code which supports risk and compliance management.
- Apply expertise knowledge of systems to inform Architecture and Solutions Design on optimal designs to ensure high quality solutions are delivered to the business.
- Deliver cost estimates for the design and develop phase in partnership with the architect, business analysts, project management, subject matter experts and solution providers for projects to provide accurate and timely cost estimates.
- Provide subject matter expertise and advice regarding application asset lifecycle management, contribution to end-end incident recovery, problem resolution, service continuity management and asset integration points within the bank.
- Lead the diagnose and resolution of complex service (cross infrastructure/application) issues that may arise during the application/development life cycle to ensure effective development, maintenance, and support of applications.
- Provide oversight and validation of proposed complex changes to business services to ensure ongoing stability and sustainability.
- Ensure that agreed standards and processes within Westpac are adhered to ensure fulfilment of regulatory obligations.
- Track solutions through all phases and escalate issues to maintain effective governance, reporting and control.
- Contribute to the common “one team” mindset that includes collaboration and a sense of joint responsibility between Westpac teams and suppliers.
- Maintain focus on industry and technical trends to allow evaluation and recommendation of changes to the business strategy/ architecture and application development and maintenance within all application domains.

What do I need?
- Proven experience in similar roles in Solution Design or Architecture.
- Extensive experience in Information Technology, primarily in systems development, support, and maintenance
- Experience in systems integration
- Advanced knowledge of system analysis
- Expert knowledge in at least one technical specialism, such as a domain or language
- Advanced analysis, problem solving and troubleshooting and consultative skills.
- A firm understanding of a financial services operating environment and core applications and products desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
