About the role
This position requires a dynamic employee grounded in Sport for Development principles and practices within a sports and Active Lifestyle context. This role provides operational, Sport and community development practice leadership for Sport and Recreation Officers and a Community Program Support Officer, while delivering complex inclusive sports planning, and delivery of active recreation, health and wellbeing driven outcomes. Through building networks and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, sporting codes and bodies, and the community, the Senior Sports & Active Lifestyle Officer will lead the development of broader social change, build resilience, social connectedness and achieve sustainable community outcomes.
This position works at a grass-roots level within the community and local sporting groups, to understand community needs and aspiration, to inform and drive community capacity building and community stewardship outcomes to create a community that is well connected, involved, active and informed.
This position is within a team environment which consists of Coordinator Sport & Community Development, Community Development Officers, Sport & Recreation Officers, and Community Program Support Officers.
About you
Our ideal applicant will have:
- Degree or post graduate qualification in Sport and Recreation or related discipline along with 3 years’ experience working within and applying a Sport and community development framework.
- Completion of community engagement public participation training (such as IAP2) or relevant industry experience engaging with community and willing to undertake training,
- Experience in providing leadership and mentorship in a Sport and recreation development context.
- Demonstrated experience to operationalise team plans and ongoing review to ensure the delivery of positive measurable community outcomes within budget. Demonstrated experience to engage with and provide advice to Government agencies, representative groups, general public, Council sections and other stakeholders on complex and sensitive social topics in an appropriate manner.
- Demonstrated experience In building the capacity of community and local sporting community organisations.
- Demonstrated community engagement practice including the facilitation of community led initiatives.
- Knowledge of and the ability to apply place based, asset based and collective impact Sport and community development frameworks and to provide leadership to others in this regard.
- High level of project management skills in program and project planning, development, implementation and evaluation.
- High level of responsibility for leading and delivering outcomes within the scope of the role, including ability to prioritise workloads, manage time effectively, work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, self-reflective practice and continual professional development growth opportunities.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills with experience in preparing detailed correspondence, reports and grant submissions.
- Demonstrated experience role modelling a positive safety culture and adherence to the Health Safety Management Systems through visible leadership and exercising due diligence and management of compliance and legislative obligations.
