Reporting to the Strategy Lead, the Senior Strategy Manager will be working with the Strategy Formulation team to ensure that the Australia Retail division has a clearly defined, competitive business strategy to enable the division to achieve its objectives.
The Senior Strategy Manager plays a key role in the development, definition and ongoing evaluation of the division's longer term strategy and transformation priorities, supporting the Leadership Team with managing trade-offs relating to execution priorities, the identification of strategic risks, and options to manage changes in external market forces.
This role will also, as required, support projects led by other Leads in the Strategic Direction team to ensure the Australia Retail strategy is designed and managed in a holistic way.
Role Accountabilities
This role is accountable for:
- Strategy formulation: support the development and evolution of the division's strategy (anchored in the longer term and working back) in consultation with the Group Exec and Australia Retail LT and other key stakeholders. Research and review industry trends and macro influences to form a competitive, sustainable strategy which is then translated into core priorities for the division.
- Quantify strategy trade-offs: rationalise and quantify the prioritisations and trade-offs required and measure the return on investment associated with choices the division will face (working in collaboration with Delivery & Investment Management and Performance Management).
- Execution pathways: support the development and evolution of the division's long term transformation priorities and sequencing and major change programs.
- Strategy risk assessment: monitor, track and ensure the realisation of the division’s strategy and priorities, and manage the strategic risks associated with the strategy.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Strategy Formulation and Development: Experience in defining, building and articulating business strategies for a large-scale organisation in line with broader organisational goals and targets.
- Analysis and Problem Solving: Structured approach to strategic analysis, with ability to succinctly frame and solve strategic problems, using data.
- Market Research and Analysis: Ability to translate external macro insights into considerations for competitive and compelling strategy formulation.
- Strategic Risk Planning: Experience in identification, assessment, management of strategy related risks.
- Commercial Acumen: High financial literacy, ability to read and understand financial statements, and recognise how different actions and strategies can impact profitability and revenue.
- Communication Skills: Experience communicating complex ideas to senior audiences in simple, compelling ways.
- Effective Collaboration: Working with others to solve business problems with the appropriate level of empathy and joint problem solving.
