Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services (NCHS) is committed to delivering a range of holistic and culturally appropriate health services to the Indigenous population of the Fitzroy Valley, amongst whom traditional law, language and cultural practices remain strong. Located in the remote heart of the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 400km from Broome, 260km from Derby and 290km from Halls Creek, we service 45 Indigenous communities scattered over an area of approximately 300km.
- Work alongside the Social Worker and Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health team to support the wellbeing of people in Fitzroy Valley communities. The role includes providing the Social Worker in supporting and establishing social work interventions to improve the quality of life of people within the Fitzroy Valley region of the Kimberley.
- Provide assistance and support to the Social Worker to enable services through case management utilising accepted social work interventions to enhance social and emotional well-being.
- Provide assistance and guidance to the Social Worker with services to individuals and families within the Fitzroy Valley community including assessment, intervention and evaluation.
- Guide and advise the Social Worker to adhere to mandatory reporting requirements, government policy and best practice guidelines in specific areas including child protection, family/domestic violence, sexual abuse, grief and loss.
- Provide guidance to the Social Worker to ensure culturally appropriate social work services are maintained at all time during service delivery.
- Maintain reliable and confidential documentation/record keeping and data management in accordance with departmental and professional guidelines.
- Participate in and complies with legislative requirements and mandatory competencies.
- Participate, when requested to assist the Social Worker in departmental, program planning and team meetings.
- Assist the Social Worker in all areas of service delivery and reporting requirements of the Alcohol and Drug program in the Fitzroy Valley in accordance with the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Action Plan.
- Work with the Social Worker and Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Team to plan, develop, implement and evaluate Alcohol and Drug health promotion strategies for the people of the Fitzroy Valley.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- Demonstrate understanding of cultural factors and social determinants particularly relating to Aboriginal health.
- Experience in health promotion, demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to work autonomously.
- Experience in health promotion program planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Understanding and commitment to the philosophy and aims of Public Health, Health Promotion and Community Development.
- High quality verbal and written communication skills, including funding applications and report writing skills.
- Realistic and flexible attitude, and genuine commitment to working in a remote area with people with differing cultural perspectives.
- A satisfactory National Police Record check (NPR reports will be considered with reference to the inherent requirements of the position).
- A Working with Children clearance.
- Current class “C” driver’s licence.
