The OpportunityAre you a seasoned tax professional with a passion for compliance and strategic tax planning? Look no further! We are seeking a dynamic Senior Tax Advisor to join our team at WSP Australia for a 7-month period of parental leave cover.Reporting to the Head of Tax for Australia and New Zealand, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our tax compliance processes are seamless and accurate and your expertise will contribute to our financial stability and growth.What you will doThis role will see you involved in and undertake, a variety of tasks and responsibilities, Including:
  • Comply with all role-specific SHEQ obligations as detailed in the relevant RACI matrix.
  • Responsible for the tax compliance filing programme for the WSP Australia business. This includes:
  • ensuring the timely and accurate lodgement of all monthly and annual statutory tax compliance and financial reporting requirements for all applicable entities within the WSP Australia group, including but not limited to corporate tax, GST, FBT, NRWT and payroll tax returns.
  • collaborating with the direct report for the preparation of the tax compliance and reporting and undertaking a thorough review of the tax compliance and reporting for completeness and accuracy, before recommending the returns for approval.
  • Provide timely and practical tax advice and assistance to various contacts across the business, including:
  • Assisting the mobility team with general Australian and international expatriate tax advice, in accordance with our established principles and approach.
  • Assisting the finance team with general tax queries.
  • Assisting in building the profile for tax across the wider Australian business, to ensure tax queries are raised and answered on a timely basis.
  • Oversee the identification and claiming of the Research and Development Tax Incentive.
  • Draft the tax responses for internal audits and implement best practice and process improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct detailed research and draft tax advice for technical tax queries, filing positions or opportunities as they arise.
  • Draft updates for the business/management on the practical implications of developments in the tax law or the ATO's/Court's interpretation of tax law.
  • Assist in responding to Group queries and implementing Group policies in the Australian context.
About YouWe would expect you to possess or be able to demonstrate the following skills, qualifications and/or experience:
  • At least 5 years of previous tax and accounting experience
  • CA or CPA-qualified
  • Strong understanding of tax principles and display strong research skills and good verbal and written communication skills
  • Capacity to be creative in finding solutions to problems
  • Good organisational and time management skills, and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Displays initiative, identifies and evaluates issues, and prioritises to achieve results and meet unexpected workflow demands
