What is the role?
Applications are sought for suitably qualified candidates to be considered for appointment to the permanent position of Senior Team Leader – Finance and Budget Management Branch. A pool will also be created for a period of 12 months.
As a Team Leader you play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.
What will you do?
A Senior Team Leader in the Finance and Budget Management Branch plays a crucial role in:
- Managing and developing a team of up to 5 staff, ensuring work is allocated fairly, completed in a timely manner and development opportunities are provided.
- Fostering working relationships across the CFO Portfolio, and with key stakeholders within the AFP and external to the Organisation.
- Overseeing business risk analysis, maintaining data integrity and delivering strategic financial advice through insightful analysis and communicating through various means such as formal and informal presentations, dashboards and reports.
- Proactively identifying opportunities to provide value-add strategic financial advice.
- Challenging existing work practices to gain efficiencies and benefits for the AFP, supporting and encouraging team members to do the same.
- Prioritising queries based on risk, materiality and relationships. Addressing queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Providing cover as required for the Coordinator and other Team Leaders within the Branch.
- Promoting work-life balance while exemplifying AFP values and ethical behaviour.
Essential Requirements
- You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
- A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- CPA/CA or other relevant post-graduate qualifications. Applicants who have commenced study thereof, or have an intention to commence, will also be considered.
- Experience and knowledge in the area of expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
- The ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships and partner with Senior Management across the AFP.
Desirable Requirements
The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
- Experience in dashboard reporting.

- This position is an AFP Band 8
- AFP employees are required to have received a minimum of two COVID-19 vaccinations (or one dose if the Janssen vaccine was used).
