This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the PM&C delegate.
Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

The Opportunity
Security Threat and Risk Analysts assist the Department with managing security risks and providing threat assessments and managing security risks by assisting various business areas make informed decisions.
Analysts are essential to the Department’s ability to effectively engage in risk and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct assessments across the Department’s wide operating environment, both domestically and abroad.
The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to undertake security assessments in accordance with industry best practice. Analysts require the ability to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders, have excellent time-management skills and are able to prioritise competing and urgent tasks.
Security Threat and Risk Analysts are required to work collaboratively as part of a small and diverse team, and to foster strong relationships with counterparts within the law enforcement, intelligence agencies and trusted industry partners.
This position requires a self-motivated, professional and personable individual with a strong commitment to service delivery. This is a technical role that involves the ability to provide tailored security support to key stakeholders.
Due to the sensitivity of the role, the successful candidate must hold, or be able to obtain, a Top Secret (Positive Vetting) clearance.

  • An outcomes-focused mindset, with an ability to apply innovative and flexible approaches to achieving results.
Other duties include:
  • Ongoing liaison with other Commonwealth and private-sector providers;
  • Conducting security briefings and training for Commonwealth staff; and
  • Working collegiately with international stakeholders to meet the needs of the Australian Government.
Prior experience or skills in threat assessments, intelligence analysis or in security is desirable but not mandatory.

  • Security studies;
  • Threat hunting;
  • Threat intelligence; and/or
  • Incident response.

The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check.
