This is a permanent, full-time vacancy located in Kununurra. The Successful applicant will not be found suitable if they are not able to move to Kununurra.

The successful applicant will be eligible for a once off $7884 Regional Incentive bonus after 12 months in the position.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the supervision of your Team Leader, the Senior Youth Justice Officer (SYJO) case manage young people subject to community supervision orders and young people at risk of offending, with the aim of reducing re-offending, protecting the community, and working closely with family, to guide young people towards the adoption of law-abiding lifestyles to contribute towards safer communities. A rewarding career choice in witnessing a young person take control of their future through their goals and aspirations, of which the SYJO is seen as an integral cog in the journey. The SYJO will also work closely with junior staff, mentoring and guiding them as to the work with young people.

SYJOs use research led, contemporary world best practice assessments and interventions to affect those positive behavior changes. SYJOs undertake their duties with an understanding of, and sensitivity to, diverse cultural groups. The position in Kununurra, work with a close-knit team, with all members of the team fully focused on working with young people and their families to achieve positive results. The staff at the office are all outgoing, and all will support each other. The successful applicant will be expected to work in an office where the culture is of support, and teamwork.

Applicants must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.

Regional and remote travel is a requirement of this position and is undertaken both in four-wheel drive vehicles (C Class Drivers license required) and light aircraft.

ABOUT YOU

Youth Justice Services is responsible for the safety, security, and rehabilitation of young people in the community and in custody. We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated person who can join a positive, team orientated Centre, where all staff support one another and who enjoy the differing challenges and highlights of working in the remote East Kimberley region, which includes travelling to some of the most remote locations in Western Australia and wants to make a difference in the lives of young people who we work with.
