We currently have the opportunity for two Academic Teachers to join the Diploma of Information Technology team on a sessional basis in 10 June 2024.
About the Subject Area:
Programming
The programming subjects introduce the core programming concepts using an object-oriented approach to programming, prioritising project-based learning and independent research, experimentation, and communication skills. These subjects introduce students to how their initial programming explorations may eventually expand to making fixes or improvements to complex industry-scale projects.
Programming 1: presents the syntax and mechanism of the Java and Python languages and shows how to build simple and more complex software systems. Programming 2 provides experience in the design, construction and evaluation of object-oriented systems.
Business Requirements Modelling
This subject introduces information system concepts and describes how these concepts can be used to model business requirements. The subject introduces various analysis approaches found in contemporary system development including object-oriented methods, agile methods, and entity relationship modelling, and describes the relationships between these techniques and their application, and how they are used to capture and model business requirements.
About the Role
This position is responsible for:
- Preparing, delivering, and facilitating tutorials and labs as outlined in the curriculum for the subject each week in the subject area of expertise, as agreed with the Program Manager
- Grading assignments, tests, examinations, and other assessment items as required
- Providing detailed, timely, and meaningful feedback to students
- Performing all other teaching-related duties such as preparation for scheduled hours of teaching, administration of student records and informal consultations with students
- Providing early learning support and referrals as in collaboration with UTS College Study Success Advisers
- In consultation with the Academic Coordinator and Program Manager, participating in a range of professional development activities
- Attending staff and subject meetings as required
- Completing special assignments under the direction of the Program Manager as required
- Establishing ongoing channels of communication with Academic Coordinators, Study Success Advisers, the Program Manager and academic colleagues to ensure consistent quality of teaching
- Participating in moderation activities
About You
To succeed in this role you must have:
- A bachelor's degree in Information Technology (doctoral qualifications preferred)
- Extensive knowledge of Java, Python or Agile methods
- 5 years+ experience in industry practice or post graduate qualifications in Information Technology
- Relevant demonstrated experience of teaching in a higher education environment
- Demonstrated commitment to innovative learning and teaching practices, including a willingness to engage with contemporary approaches to content delivery including blended learning approaches
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple demands to meet deadlines whilst ensuring accuracy
