A growing Sheet Metal fabrication business requires a Sheet Metal Worker to assist our team. The position is based at Sumner and you will be assisting with the fabrication of architectural cladding, custom roof flashings and Sheet Metal products. Profold use a range of metals including zinc, copper, aluminium and steel.
Currently a casual position, the opportunity exists for long term permanent employment and growth for the right person.
Sheet Metal Worker Responsibilities
- Fabricate and assemble Sheet Metal products and components according to specifications, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
- Use various tools, such as shears, brakes, and punches, to cut, shape, and form Sheet Metal into desired shapes and sizes.
- Weld, solder, or rivet Sheet Metal parts to join them together and create a finished product.
- Install Sheet Metal products and components, including ductwork, HVAC systems, and roofing, following established installation techniques and procedures.
- Measure, mark, and lay out work pieces using measuring tools and equipment, such as callipers, rulers, and squares, to ensure accurate dimensions and fit.
- Inspect and test finished products and components to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues or defects in Sheet Metal products or installations and make necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including properly storing tools and equipment, to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries while working with Sheet Metal.
- Collaborate with other team members, such as engineers, architects, and project managers, to ensure projects are completed on time and meet client requirements.
Sheet Metal Worker Required Skills
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of Sheet Metal fabrication techniques, including cutting, shaping, bending, and joining.
- Skilled in using a variety of hand and power tools, such as shears, brakes, punches, welding equipment, and measuring tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues or defects in Sheet Metal products or installations.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and precision in measuring, marking, and cutting Sheet Metal.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills to calculate dimensions, angles, and quantities of materials needed.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
- Good physical stamina and strength to stand, bend, lift, and carry heavy and bulky Sheet Metal products and equipment.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines for working with Sheet Metal, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in Sheet Metal fabrication desired (or relevant work experience).
- Valid certification in Sheet Metal fabrication or welding is preferred.
- Previous experience working as a Sheet Metal Worker or in a similar role is desired.
- Familiarity with construction industry standards and regulations related to Sheet Metal fabrication and installation.
- Strong knowledge of different types of Sheet Metal materials and their properties.
- Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and communicate with clients and project stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work well under pressure.
- Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated on new techniques, tools, and materials related to Sheet Metal fabrication.
- Ability to operate machinery and equipment used in Sheet Metal fabrication, such as CNC machines and hydraulic presses.
