About Us

Shooting Stars is a school-based education engagement program for Aboriginal girls and young women. Founded in 2015, Shooting Stars is the primary initiative of Glass Jar Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that comes under the wider umbrella of Netball WA.

Now based within 22 schools across Western Australia and South Australia, Shooting Stars reaches over 1,200 girls and young women, building confidence, cultural identity, and positive connections through engagement activities, health and wellbeing sessions and enrichment programs. The team of staff, most of whom are Aboriginal women, walk alongside the Shooting Stars participants throughout their schooling journeys, while offering support, advocacy, and guidance to ensure they are empowered to make informed decisions and drive their own futures.

Role and Responsibilities:

As the Philanthropy & Partnerships Manager, you will lead the development of our expanding network of sponsors, supporters, stakeholders, and advocates. Reporting directly to the Executive Officer, you will be responsible for securing, managing, and executing all commercial, grants, and philanthropic revenue growth opportunities for GJA programs. Key responsibilities of the Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager include:

  • Lead the development and management of an expanding network of sponsors, supporters, stakeholders, and advocates for the Shooting Stars Program, ensuring alignment with Glass Jar Australia's strategic business development goals.
  • Oversee the strategic and operational management of the GJA Philanthropy and Partnerships strategy, aiming to secure, manage, and execute all commercial, grants, and philanthropic revenue growth opportunities for GJA programs.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of potential donors, including individual, trust, and grant prospects capable of making significant contributions to the program, with a focus on securing six-figure and above gifts.
  • Lead and drive business development initiatives, guiding prospects through the engagement pipeline and fostering long-term relationships to support program sustainability.
  • Support in the procurement of Federal, State, and Local Government grant opportunities, ensuring achievement against set revenue and prospect targets in line with overall budgeted KPIs.
  • Implement creative strategies to increase philanthropic gifts, leveraging organisational networks and personal donor pools to generate new leads and enhance the long-term sustainability of GJA through social impact advocacy and commercial growth.

Essential Criteria:

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in senior business development, grant writing, or fundraising roles, demonstrating a track record of success.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a results-oriented environment, consistently achieving personal KPIs and targets.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex information to diverse audiences through written proposals, reports, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with high-net-worth individuals or organisations, fostering strong relationships.
  • Relevant industry experience in education, Aboriginal culture, and community engagement, with a degree-level qualification or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in managing budgets, reporting to stakeholders at various levels, and advocating for diversity and inclusivity initiatives.
  • Preparedness to be flexible in respect to work hours and inter and intra state travel.
  • Current WA driver’s licence.
  • Working with Children Check; and
  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check Clearance (NCCHS).
  • Alignment of attitudes and values with Shooting Stars' mission and workplace culture.

Desirable criteria includes:

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to advancing the cause for Closing the Gap for Aboriginal girls and women, showcasing sensitivity and empathy towards their unique challenges and aspirations.
  • Proven track record in managing a diverse portfolio of high-value donors or clients, including complex relationships within large organisations and multiple stakeholders, with a focus on cultivating meaningful and lasting connections.
  • Experience in successfully securing substantial income at the six-figure level, demonstrating proficiency in navigating the intricacies of fundraising and donor engagement to achieve significant financial support for initiatives.

Hours of work:

The role is a full-time fixed term position working 37.5 hours per week until 31 Dec 2026.

Salary:

A salary package ranging between $100K - 120K + Super and access to salary sacrifice will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on experience.
