Our Construction SA business, an integral division of the Schiavello Group for the last 50 years, delivering inspiring and award-winning construction projects has continued grow, with a strong pipeline of projects within the Health, Aged Care and Education sectors.

As a result, we are looking for an experienced, supportive and qualified Site Safety Officer with at least 5 years minimum experience in delivering and implementing a positive safety culture on complex construction and fitout sites. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated and driven to join a dynamic team and continue to grow our business in 2024 and beyond.

You will be responsible for working closely with our site team, implementing and monitoring the company safety policies, procedures and management plans, including sub-contractor safety documents (SWMS) for sites across various sectors (including health, education and commercial assets) ranging from $50,000 - $30 million. 

You will have experience in fostering a positive safety culture on various construction and fitout sites, with a positive outlook that ‘no project is too big or too small to make a difference’.

Key role & responsibilities

Reporting directly to the QSE Manager and working closely with the Project Management Team, responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct site inductions;
  • Reviewing sub-contractor Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS);
  • Confident in providing guidance and assistance to the Schiavello site staff;
  • Conduct toolbox talks;
  • Provide periodic performance reporting to various levels within the business;
  • Assist in the development of policy and procedure framework;
  • Prepare projects and personnel for an audit to ensure full conformance;
  • Undertake all required training as determined by the business;
  • Lead Critical Incident Investigations where applicable;
  • Maintain a high level of competency with all software systems (HammerTech);
  • Contribute to business improvement processes to improve Federal Safety Commissioner (OFSC) Compliance;
  • Maintain existing relationships with clients and subcontractors;
  • Formulate positive relationships with all Schiavello personnel including supportive shared and corporate services; and
  • Prepared to demonstrate commitment to the organisation.
Other key skills & experiences
  • 5 Years' experience in a WHS officer role or site supervisor role in commercial construction;
  • Proficient knowledge of ISO 9001,ISO 14001, ISO 45001;
  • Experience with Federal Safety (OFSC) requirements (preferable);
  • Minimum of Cert IV in WHS;
  • Valid First Aid Certificate;
  • Current drivers’ license (unrestricted);
  • Previous experience on DIT projects favorable but not necessary;
  • A high level of verbal and computer communication skills with trades and Schiavello staff; and
  • Speak clearly and fluently with the ability to avoid creating conflict through effectively navigating emotions in conversation.
