DESCRIPTION
The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Public Sector Education Sales team is a key partner across all education sectors (K-12, Higher Ed and Research). You will be a part of the AWS team working with academic and technical education leaders implementing cloud computing and associated technologies to scale and support stronger education outcomes.
We are looking for individuals focused on increasing awareness and adoption of AWS in Higher Education and Research. Do you have the drive, education industry experience, business savvy and the technical background necessary to help further establish Amazon as a leading cloud platform provider with institutions looking to develop and implement their 2025/2030 Digital Futures strategies?
As a Account Executive within AWS' Public Sector team, you'll shape and deliver on strategies with some of our largest K-12 and higher education customers as they embrace new challenges and opportunities to innovate. Your responsibilities will include developing a deep understanding of the customer's unique business model and critical assessment of how AWS can help them to serve their customers.
The ideal candidate will bring a background that enables them to engage and interact at the C-suite level within the Education and Research sector. They will need academic experience that facilitates communication with academic leaders combined with a technical background that enables them to discuss projects with IT leaders and technical teams. They should have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about solving business problems, product and services, and technical challenges.
Key job responsibilities
- Engage with all levels of the partner's organisation from individual faculty to Deputy- and Vice-Chancellors, including CIO / CTO level technical experts.
- Help define AWS public sector market Education segments, customer base, and industry verticals.
- Execute the strategic business development plan while working with key internal stakeholders (e.g. sales teams, service teams, legal, support, etc.).
- Work with the AWS Partner Business Manager, Higher Education & Research ANZ Industry Leads and internal stakeholders to identify and execute opportunities to increase topline growth and bottom line profitability of the partner
- Understand the technical requirements of the partner and work closely with the internal development teams to guide the direction of AWS product offerings for them.
- Manage complex contract negotiations., liaising with the legal and finance groups within both the customer and AWS.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent communication and writing skill with the ability to be both technical and analytical. · 10+ years of business development / account management / organisational experience in an academic environment,
- Relevant technical knowledge including - at a minimum, a working understanding of database systems, core distributed computing concepts, fundamentals of cloud computing and virtualization. - Experience managing or overseeing procurement and education contracting - ideally involving third party technical providers. · A demonstrable capability in understanding the financial and operational aspects of a 'for-profit' organization.
- Experience selling to public sector market segments. Experience working with Ed Tech companies on implementation projects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Working knowledge of software development practices and data center / infrastructure / networking technologies.
- Masters-level qualification or demonstrated equivalence in either a business, technical or teaching field.
