The Social and Emotional Wellbeing Worker at MDAS, will support the establishment and ongoing operations for Mildura’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Local. The role will work with other disciplines of the Local Service. This person is well educated in local Aboriginal knowledge and culture and can assist and advice clinical staff on community, cultural respect and language matters with the goal of improving outcomes for participant, carers, and the wider community. They are skilled in community engagement and advocacy and have extensive experience in Social and Emotional Wellbeing or Aboriginal Health practice and building a participant and community-led, inclusive, and values-driven culture. You will play a vital role in ensuring that participants, carers, and their families receive valuable and supportive mental health care. This role will provide cultural support and play an integral role in changing and shaping the way mental health and wellbeing services and supports are delivered to the Mildura community.
***Successful candidates may be eligible for relocation and resettlement support of up to $10,000 through the Victorian RWAV MH Workforces Rural Incentive Scheme*** conditions apply.Key Selection Criteria:• Working as part of the Mildura Building Community Capacity team to provide culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders participants.
• Work with the team to help the participants to identify engage and remain engaged with the range of health and social care services they need, as well as access local Social and community activities.
• Work with all relevant stakeholders and the team to ensure that all aspects of care and treatment are provided with consideration to the cultural needs of consumers including their cultural safety needs.
• Facilitate and participate in joint planning/case conferencing, and network meetings at key stages to ensure a coordinated response between the participants health, wellbeing, disability supports and other needs.
• Communicate, consult, liaise and negotiate with a broad range of people both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to achieve objectives and goals.
• Able to negotiate effectively to develop and implement solutions for clients and advocacy.
• Engaging, educating, and empowering individuals, families, and our community in their journey to self-determination.
• Identify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants and their families supported by the mental health and wellbeing service and offer cultural support.
• To provide cultural support, consultation, advisory and education as needed to staff.
Qualification/s:
• Minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health or similar field
• Experience in Community Sector desired• Strong Cultural knowledge of local Aboriginal Community.
• Experience in working with Aboriginal community members.
Information & Technology• Willingness to learn and adapt to technology platforms relevant to the role.
• Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems.
