About the Role
As the Social Reporter for Northern Tasmania you will create original, engaging content for the ABC's social media platforms, and use social media as a newsgathering tool to unearth impactful Tasmanian stories aimed at diverse audiences. You will work with the Tasmanian news leadership team, social media producers and video producers to develop high value content including posts, reels and YouTube videos.
The role will also involve:
- Using audience data and metrics to inform coverage in line with the ABC's Audience First strategy.
- Bringing a creative approach to connecting with community groups and finding new audiences.
- Attending daily editorial meetings and contribute to commissioning discussions to help ensure content aligns with the ABC's social media strategy.
- Developing and maintaining a strong awareness of social media and emerging trends in digital.
We are seeking a Social Reporter with either relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent skills, knowledge and experience in producing accurate and concise copy and engaging, digital-first video. You will have proven ability to use social media to find diverse stories and distribute content as well as a thorough understanding of, and enthusiasm for, the way multiplatform news stories presented on social media.
You will also have:
- The ability to work as part of a team and meet regular production deadlines and experience in camera operation and video editing.
- Demonstrated proficient knowledge and understanding of shifting audience habits.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse metrics related to engagement and reach and using these in decision making.
- A demonstrated and ongoing interest and passion in finding and telling stories that reflect Australia's diversity.
