This State Government agency is an independent authority assisting economically and socially disadvantaged people to understand and protect their rights in the legal system. This position sits in an area of the business specifically created to service Defence Force personnel and Veterans to safely share their experiences with the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
Your new role
In this role you will work collaboratively with lawyers to support Australian Defence Force personnel and veterans, including their families, carers and supporters, to engage with the Royal Commission. You will be required to:
- Undertake comprehensive psychosocial assessments. This will include risk assessments and plans to mitigate those risks, responding to clients in crisis, short and longer term case management, referrals, provision of information, support and targeted advocacy for vulnerable clients and clients with complex needs.
- Provide a professional consultancy service regarding the development and implementation of appropriate processes, systems, and measures to ensure the delivery of a trauma-informed service.
- Provide a professional consultancy service for lawyers regarding the socio-legal needs of, people who are engaging with the Royal Commission.
- Network and build relationships with key non-legal service providers and agencies to facilitate and follow-up referrals.
- Maintain accurate records, data collection and information to ensure client information is up-to-date and available to support effective case management and required reporting requirements for the project.
- Demonstrated understanding of Defence culture.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Social Work or other directly relevant degree.
- Eligible to be a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or relevant Master’s degree.
- An ability to communicate with and effectively assist a wide range of people, including those with complex trauma.
- A minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required to be considered for this position.
This role will commence asap until 30th September 2024, with the potential to extend. The team work fully remotely, meeting once a month in the office located in Haymarket. If preferred, you can work from the office more frequently. You will be working a 35-hour week, however the team are open to considering suitable individuals seeking part-time opportunities (0.8 FTE).
