We are seeking a driven Software Development Engineer to work as a key member of our dynamic , and contribute vital software engineering, system commissioning and customer support capabilities to a range of projects.

As the Software Development Engineer, you will play a key role within the team, providing critical software development and support for the team's diverse research portfolio in the resources sector. You will be actively involved in a range of existing & continuing large-scale projects, and also have the scope to work on new projects as well. You will bring your knowledge and experience to undertake essential improvements and extensions to the software platform to expand its capabilities into new application domains and deployment platforms, and develop new and/or maintain existing software interfaces for instrumentation and sensors, which will be used to support the broader group's automation and field characterisation work.

This will be an exciting opportunity based at the Queensland Centre for Advanced Technologies ( ) in Pullenvale, which is a hub for world-class research and development in the mining, energy and manufacturing industries.

Applications are invited across two capability levels and the successful candidate will be appointed at the level commensurate with their skills and experience. More detail around the differences between the levels are in the position description.

Your duties will include:
  • Providing software design, implementation and support for existing and new project applications and products developed by the research group, specifically:
  • Component Grain Analysis software
  • Other image, signal, and spectral analysis processing software
  • Sensor drivers and interfaces: development, enhancement, and maintenance
  • User interfaces: design, development, and maintenance.
  • Maintaining software version control (Git/Bitbucket) for current and legacy software applications.
  • Providing technical support to clients for our commercialised software systems, including managing a secure licence-control system.
  • At the higher CSOF level, duties will also include playing a lead technical role, providing higher-level software engineering capability for new and existing project applications across the research group, as well as initiating & maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and project teams.

Salary: AU$68K - AU$101K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation (across two capability levels)

To be considered you will need:
  • Relevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in software, electrical or mechatronics engineering, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in application development and support for C# or equivalent high-level object-oriented language.
  • Experience playing a key role in designing and developing significant software projects and systems.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team and carry out tasks under general direction from Scientific Researchers.
  • Ability & willingness to contribute novel ideas and approaches in support of scientific investigations.
  • To be considered for the higher CSOF level, you will require extensive demonstrated practical experience in designing and developing significant software projects, and project leadership experience.
