Liquid Instruments was founded by a team of experimental physicists and engineers with expertise in precision measurement and gravitational wave detector instrumentation. We provide equipment that helps scientists, engineers, students and professionals seamlessly acquire data, run measurements, and control their experiments.
Our products pioneer a new approach to test and measurement. This approach combines advanced digital signal processing with reconfigurable FPGA hardware to replace many conventional pieces of equipment with a single device at a fraction of the cost. Our founders developed this technology over several decades working on the LIGO gravitational wave detector and on NASA’s GRACE Follow-on mission.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain backend software and services.
Implement and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) to automate deployment, scaling, and management of cloud resources.
Develop and maintain Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment pipelines.
Assist with the operation of cloud and on-premise systems and infrastructure.

About you
We envisage the successful candidate will have experience with:
- Designing and developing backend software and APIs. We use Python, but we don’t mind what languages you’ve used.
- Databases, either SQL or NoSQL.
- Containerization tools and runtimes such as Docker.
- Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
- Working in a distributed team with remote team members.
Nice to Haves
- Familiarity or experience with Kubernetes.
- Experience with metrics or observability.
- Experience administering Linux environments.
- Experience developing frontend software is a bonus.
- Experience with C++ and / or FPGA build tools is a bonus.
