Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd is a State-owned Company that develops, owns and operates irrigation schemes in Tasmania, in accordance with sound commercial practice, to facilitate the expansion of agricultural production in the State.
Tasmanian Irrigation owns and operates 19 irrigation schemes across the state, along with additional inherited infrastructure. Tasmanian Irrigation’s promise to our irrigator customers is to “provide irrigators reliable and consistent water at the lowest sustainable price while responsibly and sustainably managing our water resources, scheme assets and the environment.”
The Company also oversees development of irrigation schemes, funded through a unique public / private partnership model.
Tasmanian Irrigation now oversees 26,000 individual infrastructure assets with a replacement value of approximately $500 million and has the capacity to deliver more than 151,000 megalitres of irrigation water each year.
All schemes developed and operated by Tasmanian Irrigation are economically viable, environmentally sustainable, have strong community endorsement, are designed to last at least 100 years and deliver water at an average reliability of more than 95 per cent per annum.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Tasmanian Irrigation (TI) are searching for an experienced and motivated person to take on the role of Spatial Information Specialist. In this role the successful candidate will be responsible for further developing, maintaining, and managing TI’s Geographic Information System along with championing appropriate use of GIS throughout the organisation and empowering our team to make effective use of GIS in their own workflows.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Some of the key aspects of this role will be an individual’s ability to:
- Develop and maintain ESRI/SQL server enterprise geodatabases.
- Create and maintain spatial services through ArcGIS Server
- Develop and maintain mobile GIS solutions (e.g. Field Maps, ArcGIS Online and Survey123).
- Provide technical support to ArcGIS users and users of mobile GIS within TI.
- Create maps for various internal and external clients to a professional standard.
- Develop spatial analysis solutions
- Train TI staff in use of GIS and GPS technology.
- Perform ongoing updates of TI spatial data from both external and internal sources.
- Perform quality control procedures for spatial data being generated internally and externally.
- Develop and maintain tools and scripts for automation of GIS tasks
- Develop and support documentation for TI GIS.
- Create and maintain metadata for TI spatial data.
The successful candidate will have:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a lead role working with a GIS or other spatial function
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within an environment utilising the ESRI suite of GIS applications and tools, including desktop (‘Pro’), mobile and online
- Demonstrated capability in document preparation and roll-out to support the use of an enterprise GIS
- Demonstrated capability in Python and arcpy scripting
- Self-motivated individual able to work both independently and in a team environment
- Strong analytical, organisational, planning and leadership skills
