About the role

We are looking for an Environment Specialist – Operational Delivery to join our HSEC team at our Perth, Central Park office, with ad-hoc travel to site a requirement.

You’ll be part of a friendly/ supportive/ high performing team, supported by your leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team. You’ll work a 5 days on, 2 days off roster (with flexible work options) which will give you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life.  

The purpose of this role is to enable RTIO to deliver its operational requirements in an environmentally responsible and compliant manner through the provision of SME advice for emerging/high environmental risks, progression of environmental improvement/performance projects and associated impeccable ESG initiatives.

Reporting to the HSEC Manager, Utilities and Facilities you will:

  • Deliver risk-based project work based on business needs across operations
  • Operational delivery of specific strategic priorities (i.e. Biodiversity Strategy) as per our HSCE Strategy
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities utilising a range of Rio Tinto best practices and inter-site collaboration
  • Support the development or revision of environment or other management plans based on best practice, operational experience and subject matter expertise
  • Technically support first party assurance at the Asset to deliver Standard-focused conformance audits and risk control effectiveness
  • Provide technical SME advice to support Asset environmental risk management processes as required
  • Deliver approval/legislation energy and climate change (E&CC) obligations, legal interpretation and reporting
  • Build strong relationships with key operational and functional partners

What you’ll bring

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental Management or related discipline
  • Understanding of the Environmental Protection Act and Mining Act
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key concepts and practices related to environmental risk management, State and Federal legislation and environmental management systems
  • The skills to communicate and consult effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent technical writing skills, attention to detail and an ability to interpret and problem solve complex issues
  • Ability to influence and shift mindsets
  • Critical thinking and ability to synthesise information into clear narrative
  • Analytical capabilities with a strategic thinking approach
  • Project delivery experience
  • Substantial mining operations, biodiversity, ecology and environment technical experience

This role will be offered on a standard 5 days on, 2 days off roster, with ad-hoc travel to site and the majority of your time in role will be based in the heart of Perth’s CBD.
