The Youth and Community Safety (YCS) Division brings together a range of evening time programs that support Aboriginal children, youth, and community to improve safety, education, health, and wellbeing outcomes. The division includes ‘3 Brown Street’ Youth Service (open 7 days a week), our Youth Development Service (YDS) and Child and Youth Outreach Service (CYOS) in town camps. Looking After the Kids (LATK) Outreach Service and our Night and Youth Patrol. The services work in an integrated way to provide wrap around prevention and early intervention support to children, young people, and community.
The Specialist Youth Project Officer will deliver ongoing specialist projects through the Child and Youth Outreach Service (CYOS). This service provides activities for Town Camps without a regular 5-day program to children and young people aged 5 to 18 years and works across multiple sites. The activities will include term-based ongoing creative projects, one-off school holiday activities, AOD education, healthy relationships, and social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) projects based around the skills of the successful candidate. The projects will be run in small groups of up to 10 children or young people. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervision of one to three youth workers. And be able to work independently on our Town Camps where other staff are not available.
The Specialist Youth Project Officer will work as part of a cohesive and integrated YCS team and have demonstrated strong team player skills, positive attitude, and ability to collaborate across services and teams. They will be supervised by a YCS Coordinator and work alongside our YCS Team Leaders to provide support to other teams, assist in upskilling our staff, and design and implement specialist programs for use across all services. The role will also be involved in the roll-out and delivery of our Mobile Youth Hub. A 4WD Bus with specialised in-built activities for young people. The division of these responsibilities will be determined by the YCS Coordinator and Leadership team to reflect the program needs, staff areas of interest and experience and other operational considerations.
This position requires previous experience in the delivery of Youth Projects, high-level skills in creative industries, program design and development, and small team leadership. It requires a strong commitment to cultural safety, quality service provision, working from a strengths-based and trauma informed practice perspective, with high level skills in group-based projects with young people.
This position is an evening time role, working from 12.30pm to 8pm alongside our YCS Youth Teams, with occasional later shifts for special events during school holidays.
