About the Centres for Deaf Education:
The Centres for Deaf Education cater for children and students with moderate to profound bilateral hearing loss. The Centres are co-located within mainstream preschools and schools and have a bilingual-bicultural approach (Auslan and spoken/written English).
Students enrolled in the Centres for Deaf Education have educational needs resulting from their hearing loss and may use hearing aids and/or cochlear implants and may have Auslan as their first language. A percentage of these students do not have full access to a first language at home. A number of students present with increased learner complexity due to coexisting needs in the areas of cognition, behaviour and/or mental health.
About the role:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a dedicated and communicative individual to join our team as a Speech Pathologist. In this role, you will participate in the design and implementation of a service model that supports the provision of integrated and targeted services to meet the needs of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children and students at the Centres for Deaf Education.
The Speech Pathologist is a member of a multi-disciplinary team working alongside psychologists, Centre Coordinators and Teachers of the Deaf. Working closely with the Senior Speech Pathologist, speech pathology colleagues, preschool and school staff, and families you will develop evidence-based language, speech and communication interventions that include proactive, targeted, and intensive strategies that are adapted for the learning context of the Centres for Deaf Education.
In this position, you will work with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing children and students and their families to support the acquisition and development of a bi-modal communication system that may include a combination of signed, spoken and/or written communication. This position works under the professional support and direction of the Senior Speech Pathologist.
Qualifications:
Essential: An appropriate degree or equivalent which gives eligibility for full membership to Speech Pathology Australia. Minimum of Certificate II in Auslan or willingness to undertake further Auslan study.
Desirable: Current practicing membership with Speech Pathology Australia with Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP) status.
Special Conditions:
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

Remuneration:
AHP2 $86,950 - $100,729 per annum (1.0 FTE), plus superannuation
