About the role

Speech Pathologist - Inclusive Education role provides a collaborative and consultative speech pathology services to schools to build the capacity of schools and teachers to meet the diverse learning needs of their students. As a member of the Inclusive Education & Student Wellbeing team, you will provide specialist services and works with schools to support students requiring significant assistance result of communication difficulties.

This is an opportunity to be part of an innovative Student Support Services Team working with students in Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE).

In this role, you will

  • Develop, implement and evaluate speech pathology services to promote student communication, learning and well-being outcomes
  • Develop partnerships with school communities and support schools to implement BCE Inclusive Education for students with communication impairments
  • In partnership, engage in decision-making processes with BCE and school personnel, families and students
  • Maintain standards of practice and competencies consistent with Speech Pathology Australia and BCE policies and guidelines
  • Assist schools to develop connections to facilitate learning and teaching of students with communication impairments
  • Respond to school needs on service options at student, class, whole school, and school cluster levels.
  • Contribute to data collection, resource development, identification of good practice and program evaluation to support high quality speech pathology practices and change processes in BCE schools.
  • Provide professional advice, support and reporting, in the area of speech pathology
  • Effectively communicate information on service delivery to schools.
  • Work with Progress and Performance Senior Leaders to support school planning processes in the area of Inclusive Education.

Qualifications & Registrations

  • Minimum mandatory requirement of a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Speech Therapy/Pathology providing eligibility for practicing membership to Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Certified Practicing Speech Pathology status with SPA is desirable

All BCE employees will be:

  • eligible to work in Australia
  • Hold or be eligible to hold a Positive Notice Blue card work working with children or QCT registration.
  • Have a commitment to Safeguarding
  • Provide proof of identity at the interview as part of the pre employment screening process

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated clinical competence and professional capacity to provide safe, quality services that optimise communication, learning and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people with speech language communication needs (SLCN)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively apply this knowledge and expertise within an education context
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams and form relationships with school leaders and teachers to facilitate effective speech pathology services in schools.
  • High level written and interpersonal communication skills and accurate and comprehensive written records keeping.
  • Demonstrated capacity for solutions-focused, flexible and creative thinking
  • Skills and experience in delivering professional development and knowledge transfer activities.
  • Well developed interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice and continuing self-directed professional growth and development
  • A commitment to and understanding of the purpose and mission of the Catholic Church and Catholic schools
