The role:

The Leisure and Recreation Services Department's works to activate and connect the Whitehorse community.
The position is responsible for proactively planning and managing current and future utilisation of key Council recreation/sport facilities from a policy Development and club development perspective with an emphasis on participation, physical activity and health focussed outcomes. The role interacts significantly with both internal and external stakeholders.

This 12 month fixed term role is an excellent opportunity for a candidate to contribute meaningfully to a wide portfolio of important ongoing projects related to community sport and recreation. Amongst a diverse portfolio, this opportunity will focus on collaboration on the development of the regional Fair Access Policy for gender equitable access to sporting facilities, securing partnerships with not-for-profit organisations and health providers to deliver sporting club development opportunities and contribute specialised sport and recreation advice to important Council projects such as the Social Community Infrastructure Plan that will provide significant community outcomes over a long period of time.

About you:

  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, consultation, negotiation and engagement skills, and the ability to negotiate and problem solve. This includes experience working with engaged and passionate stakeholders
  • Thorough understanding of community consultation, project management techniques and principles with demonstrated capacity to progress projects in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple live projects concurrently, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines within a busy environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex concepts clearly and succinctly.
  • Demonstrated performance as an effective team player and with a capacity to be an active member of workplace teams at multiple levels across the organisation.
  • Understanding of societal health and wellbeing issues and how Councils can positively address these across its operations. Experience within community sporting contexts as a participant or volunteer is desirable but not essential.
