Staff Specialist - Emergency Medicine

We are seeking the services of a Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine to provide specialist emergency medical care to patients across two hospitals. Applicants seeking a part-time position are also encouraged to apply.

Your duties will include:

• Quality improvement and undergraduate & post-graduate and other teaching
• Arrange onward referral of patients for medical services not available locally
• Participate in the on-call roster
• Provide a consultative service to other specialist units
• Supervise and teach junior medical staff and medical students
• Participate in clinical research
• Participate in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiative and related training.

Essential requirements

• Specialist (Emergency Medicine) or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
• Current drivers licence
• Recent experience in an acute hospital setting
• Demonstrated experience to provide acute resuscitation services to the critically ill & effective communication skills with patients, their relatives and professional colleagues

Hospital and location

A modern secondary level hospital providing emergency and specialist services to Northern Tasmania. It offers services in medical, surgical and allied health through inpatient and outpatient departments.  The hospital caters for the emergency resuscitation, surgery and intensive care of most trauma patients and other medical conditions.

The Emergency Department has an annual attendance rate of 27,600 patients per year with a 28% admission rate. The Department treats a broad range of patients including major trauma cases.
