An exciting new position has been created for an experienced Geriatrician with demonstrated practice in General Medicine. This position will facilitate and provide clinical management of complex elderly patients across General Medicine and Mental Health services.
- Permanent Part-Time (20 hours per week).
- Classification: Staff Specialist Level 1 (Level election is optional)
About the Role:
The Staff Specialist is responsible for participation in the General Medicine roster, provision of specialist geriatrician consultation and outpatient services, supervision, medical education, research and administration. The Staff Specialist works within an inter-disciplinary team to ensure timely, appropriate care and effective discharge strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and assist in post-graduate training in General, and Geriatric medicine.
- Provide education for undergraduates, Junior Medical Officers, Nursing and Allied Health Staff.
- Participate in the General Medicine inpatient roster, manage an inpatient team and timely discharges.
- Participate in outpatient services including, community visits, nursing home visits and outreach clinics.
- Provide specialist geriatrician consultation services to the hospital and twice weekly consultation to the co-located Mental Health Unit for elderly People.
What you bring:
- A Primary Medical Degree registrable with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or other specialist recognition as provided for the NSW (Non-Declared) AHO Staff Specialist Agreement or the Health Insurance Act 1973.
- Specialist training in General and Acute care Medicine and/or Geriatric Medicine. An interest in the care of complex older patients within mental health services is desirable.
- Demonstrated capacity for clinical leadership, a commitment to undergraduate and post-graduate teaching in medicine, nursing and allied health and willingness to participate in clinical research.
The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
