Purpose of the Position:
To support BQ in the delivery of Basketball Queensland’s Performance Programs which includes:
- The State Performance Program including the North and South Queensland State (U16/U18/U20)
- Volunteer Coach education and development.
- Assisting the Pathways Development Manager in the delivery of the Emerging Program and Future Development Program to ensure on-court consistency and connection throughout the pathway.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Key Functions:
- Support the HPM in the delivery of the State Performance Program (SPP) and all on-court coaching activities associated with the SPP;
- Assistance with the on-court delivery of the BQ Future Development Program (FDP)
- Deliver Individual skills and concept development training programs for athletes selected onto SPP
- Lead the technical instruction or the Basketball Queensland Style of play (SOP) and its Associated curriculum at camps and training sessions for Associations
- Delivery of training sessions for the State athletes in North and South Queensland
- Assist in the Selection of State and Development Team coaches and managers;
- Provide assistance to member associations in relation to representative level player and coach development as and where appropriate;
- In conjunction with the HPM devise and communicate State Team Offensive and Defensive Team Systems and SOP enhancements to Association members and their Rep coaches.
- Develop and maintain communication links with BQ affiliated associations and the basketball community throughout Queensland; Provide assistance with coach and player development to member associations as and where appropriate.
- Other coaching duties as directed
Key Performance Indicators
- Success of Basketball Queensland teams, athletes and coaches on a National and International Stage
- KPI’s identified in Strategic and Business Plans are met;
- Programs delivered within agreed timeframes and budgets;
- BQ services regarded by stakeholders (both internal and external) as well organised, efficient, professional and customer focused;
- Project plans developed, maintained and reports generated as requested;
- BQ internal operations are efficient and effective with all necessary policies in place; and
- Client surveys/feedback is positive and appropriate to maintain the programs delivered.
- Relevant Coaching Accreditation
- 1. At least five years’ managing and coaching experience in the delivery of player and coach development programs at either a basketball sporting association or a State/National Sporting Organisation;
- 2. Hold a current Association Level Accreditation with a willingness to progress their development as a coach through the recognised accreditation pathway.
- 3. Experience and ability to deliver best practice technical and tactical elite coaching on court to athletes and coaches.
- 4. Demonstrated coaching expertise ideally to national standard.
- 5. Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills, including the ability to be client focused and able to communicate and negotiate with a broad range of people at all levels;
- 6. Good time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines;
- 7. Interpersonal and relationship-building skills who can keep their staff and volunteers, motivated by being approachable, compassionate, diplomatic and have good listening skills;
- 8. Customer-focused with the ability to understand issues from the customer’s perspective, be solution focused and a calming influence in circumstances where customer expectations have not been met;
- 9. Forward-planning and strategy – with the ability to look at the big picture to put strategies in place to achieve the team’s vision and missions;
- 10. Be a problem-solver and can think on your feet and solve problems as soon as they happen while remaining calm and focused as you come up with solutions;
- 11. Proven skills and knowledge in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), use of internet and e-mail and ability to update websites;
- 12. Hold or, the ability to hold, a positive notice for working with children;
- 13. Hold a current drivers license; and
- 14. Have your own, roadworthy motor vehicle.
