We are looking for a skilled and adaptable Station Hand to join our client's family-owned beef cattle and farming operation. This permanent role provides a unique chance to become a part of a fourth-generation family enterprise spread across three properties. The position encompasses a blend of cattle mustering on horseback, farm work, and a variety of day-to-day property maintenance tasks. Our client manages a family-owned and operated farming enterprise, overseeing 4,000 head of cattle on 30,000 acres. Their farming practices incorporate both dryland and a 700-acre portion of irrigation. They manage a diverse cattle herd, consisting of Santa, Hereford, and Angus breeds, raising the weaner cattle to the feeder stage, with a strong commitment to continuously making improvements to their properties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct all cattle mustering on horseback (horse available for use, but you're welcome to use your own)
- Day-to-day tasks include; checking water, mustering, drafting & processing cattle, checking & repairing fences, welding, yard building, slashing, dozer driving for dam building/firebreaks/clearing/stick raking
- Operate machinery – dozer, John Deere tractors & other farming machinery
- Participate in farming activities including haymaking & crop farming of wheat, mung beans, oats, forage, sorghum, barley, chickpea & soybean
Requirements:
- Previous cattle experience
- Strong horse riding abilities
- MR truck license beneficial but not mandatory
- Mechanical & welding ability
- Willingness to learn and upskill
- Low-stress stock handling
- Chemcert or willing to obtain
- Machinery operator tickets are desirable
