Our client is seeking two Stockpersons/Pen Riders to join their team. You will play a pivotal role in monitoring and maintaining the welfare of animals within an intensive livestock production system. Our client values dedication to quality assurance, workplace safety, and animal welfare. The role involves monitoring livestock health, administering treatments, handling cattle, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment. The successful candidates will need a steadfast commitment to ensuring the well-being of the animals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducting pen riding to identify and remove sick animals
  • Administering appropriate treatment and maintaining records of sick cattle
  • Managing the induction process for new cattle, including tagging, vaccination, and more
  • Identifying, drafting, and weighing cattle for slaughter readiness
  • Assisting in the movement and cleaning of pens and work areas
  • Checking livestock and water troughs in paddocks
  • Contributing to occupational health and safety processes
  • Reporting any unusual disease or plant pest signs
  • Handling and storing chemicals in accordance with guidelines
  • Complying with industry quality assurance requirements
  • Participating in environmentally sustainable work practices

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • A strong commitment to quality assurance, workplace health and safety, and animal welfare
  • Ability to ride horses safely and follow OH&S procedures
  • Motivation, persistence, and patience when faced with challenges
  • Willingness to adapt to changing work hours based on seasonal demands
  • Candidates are required to hold a valid driver's license and preferably possess cattle experience, although training will be provided. Familiarity with gate operations is also desired

​The position entails a regular work schedule from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, accommodating occasional additional hours as necessary, which may fluctuate seasonally. Additionally, a three-bedroom house is available for rent off-site in town. The roster operates on a 10-4 rotation system. There's an opportunity for candidates to bring their own Hendra vaccinated horse(s) – up to two – for pen riding. Alternatively, if candidates do not have horses, they will be walking the pen on foot and responsible for feeding hay to horses on-site.
