  • Highly respected not for profit organisation working in partnership with remote Aboriginal communities.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

About Red Dust

We are a well-established Australian not-for-profit organisation working in remote Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory. We sit, walk and work alongside elders, family and youth to reimagine success and create a stronger future for communities. We are in an exciting growth phase with main offices in Alice Springs, Darwin and Melbourne. We want someone who shares our vision and can help us write the next chapter of growth for our organisation.

Our values guide everything we do and they shape our culture

  • Real - We are hands on and work with integrity
  • Ready - We are prepared with the skills and knowledge to achieve our goals
  • Respectful - We develop sincere relationships and value the diversity of culture, people and places

Strong Young Men & Boys Program

Red Dust’s Strong Young Men & Boys Program is a community-based health and wellbeing program delivered through weekly visits to schools, youth centres and adult male health services in urban settings and on-Country yarning & cultural camps in remote communities. Red Dust partners with communities in the Top End and Central Desert regions of the Northern Territory.

This program supports Young Men and Boys to be their best selves – in their community and cultural worlds, and their Western, contemporary worlds.  Key activities include yarning circles, bush and hunting trips, artifact making, culture and language learning, alcohol and other drugs discussions, well-being screeners, automotive mechanics, and outstation work. Local leadership development and meaningful employment opportunities are key priorities in this program.

The role

You will be a key member of the Red Dust Programs Team coordinating the delivery of our Strong Young Men and Boys (SYMB) program to youth and families in Darwin and across remote Aboriginal communities in the Top End of the Northern Territory. You will work closely with the Regional Manager and Strong Young Men and Boys Manager to ensure safe, high-quality programs are delivered in consultation with the communities and organisations we partner with.  You will partner with your fellow program coordinators to ensure consistency across programs and regions.  It is a hands-on role requiring effective facilitation skills while also contributing to the ongoing improvement of the program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver program curriculum including yarning circles to young males from Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander backgrounds in both remote and urban settings based out of Darwin.
  • Support the Program Manager and Regional Manager to develop relationships with local organisation for program delivery.
  • Identify and develop new programs elements and opportunities to improve your program.
  • Partner with the program manager to plan and execute the annual program schedule for your region.
  • Support the training of new facilitators.
  • Ensure data is collected for every program delivered in line with Red Dust’s evaluation framework.
  • Support the employment strategy by identifying casual workforce opportunities for program participants and overseeing their involvement.
  • Organise logistics for your program.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience delivering programs with Indigenous youth and young adult audiences.
  • Knowledge of key health and wellbeing topics relevant to the Indigenous population.
  • An ability to effectively engage young audiences and relate to their circumstances.
  • You are comfortable collecting data for measuring program impact.
  • You are someone who lives our values – Real, Ready and Respectful.
  • Ability to flex and adapt in a dynamic environment – you are comfortable getting your hands dirty.
  • A collaborative approach to working with those around you.
  • An Ochre Card (NT Working With Children Check) or ability to obtain one.

What’s on offer

  • A competitive salary.
  • NFP salary packaging benefits.
  • Flexible working conditions.
  • A fun and rewarding environment with an organisation making a difference in Aboriginal health and wellbeing.

How to apply

We take an organic approach to our recruiting. We want to get to know you and for you to get to know us. If you’re prepared to come on a journey with us then Apply and submit your resume and a cover letter telling us what makes you Real, Ready and Respectful and why your career to date makes you the best person to help take Red Dust to the next level. We will be assessing applications as they are submitted so be sure to act quickly.  Shortlisted applicants will be invited to yarn with us further.

Our organisation is committed to child safety. We have zero tolerance of child abuse. Our robust human resources, recruitment and vetting practices are strictly adhered to during the application and interviewing process. Applicants should be aware that we carry out working with children, police records and reference checks (as we see fit) to ensure that we are recruiting the right people.
