Structural Steel Welder

As a Boilermaker/Welder, your primary focus is precise fabrication of Light/Mid steelwork in accordance with specifications, details and drawings.

 Your responsibilities will also include:

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

• Perform assigned duties in a timely and safe manner.
• General boilermaker/Welder duties including use of:
- cropper
- oxyacetylene equipment
- MiG and arc welder
- power hack saw
- drop saw
- drill press
- stud machine
- band saws
- cold saw
• Forklift operation (if licensed)
• Maintain and use equipment as designed.

• Ensure that work is performed as per the tasks/requirements in the Work Pack
• Ensure all work is carried out to quality and specification requirements and that documentation is completed on time.
• Daily time cards are completed accurately and on time.
• Follow Company policies and procedures.

Education and Experience 
The formal education and experience for the Boilermaker job description include but not limited too

• Relevant  Trade qualified - Boilermaker/Welder
• Forklift Licence

• Mandatory experience - 5 years + in heavy Structural steel welding

• Understand weld ability of Structural Steel
• Sound knowledge/understanding of Quality requirements

• studying blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements
• selecting, cleaning and preparing metal stock
• cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines
• shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering
• aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments
• joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting
• examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision
• finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing and bathing in acidic solutions
• cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling and grinding

• Must be prepared to undertake additional training as required
• Is expected to work outside normal working hours on occasions
