The Role
Southern Ports is recruiting a Structural/Civil Engineer to join their team in Esperance. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Structural/Civil Engineer’s accountabilities and functions are to perform asset coordination activities in relation to Structural/Civil infrastructure, Structural/Civil design and review, and provide technical assistance on projects and contract management in relation to Structural/Civil infrastructure owned and operated by Southern Ports at Port of Albany, Port of Bunbury and Port of Esperance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide sound technical advice, liaison and support on issues related to Structural/Civil engineering design, project scopes, schedules and estimates, as required for the maintenance and planning of current and future port assets.
- Liaise with Asset Sponsors and Service providers to ensure that Southern Ports’ Structural/Civil assets meet SPA requirements. This includes ensuring compliance with all statutory technical and safety codes, regulations, codes of practice and other relevant requirements. Collaborate on the development of maintenance strategies, life cycle cost models and asset renewal plans.
- Manage the development of safe, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective operational and maintenance procedures, and assist with their implementation and maintenance with respect to Southern Ports’ Structural/Civil assets.
- Develop condition inspection methodology and schedule for Structural/Civil assets, collate and analyse results, communicate overall asset health to Asset Management team.
- Provide Structural/Civil Engineering technical support to the Projects and Planning Unit during construction/execution activities.
- Perform the duties of the Asset Integrity Coordinator as outlined in the Defect Elimination Process.
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
- Qualifications in asset management and project management, desirable
- Demonstrated experience with the design, construction and maintenance of one or more of the following; port and marine structures such as wharves and jetties, navigation structures, storage sheds, pavements and hardstands, buildings, retaining structures, seawalls, breakwaters and drainage
- Demonstrated experience in strategic asset management practices, ideally with respect to the management of Structural/Civil assets
- Detailed knowledge Structural/Civil engineering design, operation and maintenance practices and standards
- Detailed knowledge of Structural/Civil statutory regulations and standards, especially as they relate to safety

Requirements
To be eligible for this full-time role, applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency and reside or be willing to move to Esperance.
The successful applicant must have a current WA driver’s licence, be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Access Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
