Student Disability Aide

Iona College is inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the life of St Eugene de Mazenod.  Iona is an independent Catholic Boys School, owned and administered by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. It is located in the Brisbane Bayside suburb of Lindum and caters for 1,850 students from Years 5 to 12 inclusive. 

Iona College is seeking a permanent, term-time Student Disability Aide to work with a students who require support with a physical disability. As a member of the Diverse Learning Team, the Student Disability Aide works closely with students, building a connection and developing pathways to ensure they can achieve their individual goals and build friendships and relationships that will support their school journey and enable them to participate in their daily routine as a valued member of the student cohort. 

As the successful candidate, you will have a passion for education and will model, foster and promote excellence in teaching and learning.   You will also share the Catholic values and ethos, including that of the Oblate Charism.

Role requirements and qualities:

  • Certificate III in Disability/Individual Support or willingness to obtain it.
  • Relevant experience in working with children with a physical disability including knowledge of manual handling.
  • Working with Children Check (Blue card)
  • CPR and First Aid certificate
  • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education
  • Competent at personal care responsibilities and able to physically assist as required.
  • Able to think on your feet and remain calm when confronted with challenging or difficult situations or behaviours.
  • ICT competencies conducive to supporting students with significant learning disorders.
  • Ability to relate to school age children with a proactive attitude towards student protection.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Passionate and diligent about making a difference in the lives of others.
  • Willing to further skills by way of attendance at training sessions when required.
  • Capable of meeting reporting requirements by way of comprehensive Personal Care Records.
  • Ability to maintain professional confidentiality regarding College information.

This role is a level four (4) School Officer within the Catholic Employing Authorities Single Enterprise Collective Bargaining Agreement for Religious Institute Schools of Queensland. The Student Disability Aide is a term-time position. Hours of duty are Monday to Friday, with engagement in line with contractual hours between 8am and 3.15pm.
